During Week 12 of the 2021 season, Ward traveled to his hometown of McComb, MS during the Chiefs' Bye Week to donate $10,000 worth of holiday food with help from the Boys and Girls Club and the Mississippi Food Network. "This is the place that made me who I am. Like, this is the reason why I'm in the NFL now," Ward said. "I love my hometown. This is the place that made me. I got a lot, so I just chose to give back this year, and I'm making it a tradition to give back every year. I just love my people, and I want to give back to them." Ward, along with volunteers from The Boys & Girls Club and McComb High School, distributed turkeys and fresh produce to 290 families. However, Ward says this is just the beginning of his newly founded charity, Charvarius for Change.
When Ward was a child, a large cyst in his hip left him wheelchair-bound for an extended period of time. During this period of his life, Ward built a strong bond with his family, his mother in particular, as they assisted him in all aspects of his daily life. Due to the injury, Ward did not play organized football until his senior year of high school, but against all odds, eventually made it to the NFL.

Appeared in 25 games (10 starts) for Middle Tennessee State, re- cording 74 tackles, 21 PDs and 1 FR. Appeared in all 13 games (8 starts) as a senior in 2017. Registered 48 tackles, 14 PDs and 1.0 sack. As a junior in 2016, they appeared in 12 games (2 starts) and tallied 23 tackles, 1 INT, 5 PDs, and 1 FR. Transferred to Middle Ten- nessee State from Hinds CC (MS) prior to his junior year in 2016. Tallied 64 tackles, 4 INTs, 7 PDs, 1 FF and 1 blocked FGA at Hinds CC. As a sophmore in 2016, logged 32 tackles, 1 INT, 2 PDs, and 1 blocked FGA. In 2015 as a freshman, tallied 32 tackles, 3 INTs, 5 PDs and a FF.
