McCaffrey Discusses Rejoining Team Drills
The veteran running back was limited for the start of camp on Wednesday in line with a workload plan set forth by the 49ers coaching staff. Head coach Kyle Shanahan noted that he would be participating in team drills Thursday, and according to plan, the Faithful got to see McCaffrey rejoin team drills in the team's first open workout.
"Just our plan with him," Shanahan said. "We have a whole thing mapped out, so it'll be different each day. A number of players are like that."
"It was good to be back," McCaffrey said. "I think it's probably smart to ease into things a little bit these first few days, and then next week, get going. But, it's important to get my eyes right, get the timing right, just get more comfortable. You have to get these reps. It's important."
Another running back increasing his reps on Thursday was third-year Jordan Mason, who caught multiple passes over the course of 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 periods.
"He's improved so much from the first time meeting him," McCaffrey said. "Just in the meetings, the way he is out at practice. Our whole running back room has such a good energy to it right now. We are all pushing each other, making each other better but also being there for each other. It's a really fun room to be a part of because you want to talk about guys forcing you to be at your best, every single one of those guys are doing just that."
