The San Francisco 49ers welcomed back the Faithful on Monday for the first padded practice of training camp. While there is a lot of excitement surrounding the first practice in pads, a handful of veterans opened up the week with a rest day, so expect the energy to ramp up a few more notches when a larger contingency of 49ers players hit the field tomorrow.

Maliek Collins Talks Role Alongside Javon Hargrave on the 49ers Defensive Front
The veteran defensive lineman was the only player acquired by the 49ers via trade during the free agency period. San Francisco sent a seventh-round draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to the Houston Texans in exchange for Collins.
Throughout the early days of training camp, Collins has logged a large portion of his reps alongside Javon Hargrave on the interior of 49ers defensive line.
"He's a guy that I've studied for a long time," Collins said. "We came out together. We trained a little bit in the offseason together. I'm just excited to be here and learn from him.
"I think we are going to compliment each other well. I think his game, the ability to win at the speed that he wins at, on a fast pace through the A and B gap, that's something I can learn from as far as speeding up my rushes. I've been close a lot as far as pressures and things like that but I'm learning from him how to speed up my rush and get vertical."
Collins is set to enter his ninth NFL season and was brought in to help revamp the 49ers defensive line for the 2024 season. While he's new to the organization, Collins' reunion with defensive line coach Kris Kocurek has been a long-awaited meeting after crossing paths with him prior to entering the league.
"Kris, that's someone I've been waiting to play for," Collins said. "I thought I was going to go to Detroit (Lions) when I first came out and play for him. We had a good draft meeting. He's someone I have been eager to learn from. He's on it."
