Training Camp Day 6: 49ers Deep Ball Connection Heats Up

The competition at the San Francisco 49ers training camp ramped up on the Day 2 of pads. A handful of veteran playmakers returned to the field after a rest day, and this sixth day of practice marked the longest practice of camp thus far.

Training Camp Notebook

  • DL Nick Bosa, RB Christian McCaffrey, OL Jake Brendel and FB Kyle Juszczyk were suited up and full participants in practices after taking the day off on Monday.
  • RB Isaac Guerendo, OL Spencer Burford and OL Jon Feliciano did not practice.
  • For the first time this training camp, the 49ers coaching staff introduced one-on-one drills which included pass rush drills and wide receiver versus cornerback drills.
  • Veteran safety Rock Ya-Sin stood out during one-on-ones, coming up with at a couple pass breakups on throws to wide receivers Terique Owens and Ronnie Bell.
  • Later in one-on-ones, Owens created some nice separations from CB Ambry Thomas to connect with QB Brandon Allen on a deep ball.
  • Also in one-on-one drills, WR Jauan Jennings high pointed a ball from Purdy and avoided some sticky coverage from CB Isaac Yiadom
  • Juszczyk joined in on punt returner drills alongside WRs Trent Taylor, Ronnie Bell and Ricky Pearsall.
  • During 11-on-11 drills, Purdy flexed his arm with a roughly 60-yard throw to Deebo Samuel Sr. who made the catch in stride. The play was met with a huge support of the 49ers Faithful in the stands.
  • Purdy followed up his big play to Samuel Sr. with an off-schedule play to McCaffrey 30-plus yards down the left sideline.
  • The defense created a number of turnovers with S Ji'Ayir Brown, LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, S George Odum and CB Deommodore Lenoir each nabbing an interception.
  • K Jake Moody made all three of his field goal attempts on the day.
