Good Morning Faithful,

Here are your top 49ers storylines for Friday, May 10th.

New and Notable

49ers Mourn Passing of Hall of Famer Jimmy Johnson

Former San Francisco 49ers defensive back Jimmy Johnson passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the age of 86.

Statement from the San Francisco 49ers organization:
"The 49ers family is deeply saddened by the passing of one of the NFL's all-time greats, Jimmy Johnson. Jimmy embodied the essence of what it meant to be a 49er. He was the ultimate gentleman and will be remembered for his humility, kindness and loveable demeanor. We send our condolences to his wife Gisela and his entire family at this difficult time."

NorCal Native Jarrett Kingston Talks Playing for the Hometown Team

While most of the San Francisco 49ers 2024 draft class needed to hop on planes to report to rookie minicamp, all that sixth-round pick Jarrett Kingston needed to do was get in his car and drive roughly three and a half hours south.

Anderson sits on the outskirts of Redding, CA, so it wouldn't be totally off base to think Kingston may have grown up a member of the Faithful. However, that's not exactly the case. He's new to the team and the fandom but quickly embracing all things 49ers.

5 Things to Know: Safety Malik Mustapha

In the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected Malik Mustapha from Wake Forest University with the 124th-overall pick.

"You're going to get my all," Mustapha told president of football operations and general manager John Lynch after being drafted. "I promise you."

49ers Alumnus John Taylor Enters Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame

On Monday, San Francisco 49ers legend John Taylor was enshrined with the Class of 2024 into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame.

The former 49ers wide receiver joins Patrick Willis, Keena Turner, Harris Barton, Dwight Clark, Joe Montana, George Seifert, Jerry Rice and many other 49ers legends who are already a part of the Hall.

John Lynch Shares Early Scouting Report on Brock Purdy on Pat McAfee Show

When you think about the day quarterback Brock Purdy was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers - April 30, 2022 - that date may feel like it was several lifetimes ago. That's probably because since Purdy was selected with the final pick (No. 262 overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former 49ers third-string QB has led his team to two NFC Championships and a Super Bowl LVIII appearance. It's also important to note that in between his first two seasons in the NFL, Purdy also had the added challenge of rehabbing from a season-ending elbow surgery he suffered against the Philadelphia Eagles in early 2023. A lot more excitement has been sandwiched in between, but the point is, a lot of good things have happened with Purdy taking over as the 49ers starting quarterback.
