Brock Purdy OUT, Mac Jones Questionable vs. Buccaneers; Injury Report Ahead of #SFvsTB

After a weekend off and a bonus practice on Monday, the San Francisco 49ers closed out an extended week of preparation and issued their official game status report ahead of the Week 6 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Before the team takes off to Tampa on Friday, head coach Kyle Shanahan ruled quarterback Mac Jones questionable against the Buccaneers. With his game status, the team and President of Football Operations and General Manager John Lynch are hopeful that they can have Jones under center on Sunday. Lynch shared on KNBR this week that San Francisco feels "pretty good about where he's going to be at." Lynch also noted that the quarterback is in good shape after powering through last Thursday's win over the Los Angeles Rams and continues to make progress heading into Sunday's contest in Tampa Bay.

The 49ers also received a positive update in the secondary. Safety Malik Mustapha was officially designated to return from the Injured Reserve list on Monday, opening his 21-day practice window. The second-year safety was a full participant in Wednesday's session, his first since undergoing ACL surgery in January, and shared that he feels "ready to go." His status is questionable for Sunday's game, but if his progress continues, there's a chance Mustapha could make his 2025 season debut on Sunday.

At wide receiver, both Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings continue to work their way back from injury. Pearsall (knee) has yet to return to practice after missing last week's game, and Shanahan shared that he won't be available against the Buccaneers. Jennings (ankle, ribs) has been limited throughout the week but showed improvement, moving from a non-participant Wednesday to limited on Thursday and Friday, an encouraging sign for his recovery. His status for Sunday is still questionable.

Quarterback Brock Purdy remains sidelined as he continues to recover from a toe injury. The team wants to ensure Purdy is fully back on track before returning to play.

Below is the complete Week 6 Game Status Report from Friday:

The 49ers will continue to monitor players listed on the report. Final decisions on gameday availability will be announced 90 minutes prior to kickoff in Tampa Bay.
