Day 2 of 49ers Training Camp: Legends Visit, Purdy-Kittle Light Up Practice

The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their second training camp practice of 2025 on Thursday, giving fans plenty to cheer about on a sunny afternoon in Santa Clara.

There was also some star power as 49ers legends Patrick Willis and Bryant Young, both Pro Football Hall of Famers, attended on the sidelines. Willis and Young took in the action from practice and greeted players between drills.

Key Takeaways from Day 2

  • The team made a roster move ahead of practice, signing veteran wide receiver Quintez Cephus and waiving running back Israel Abanikanda to make room on the roster.
  • After sticking to individual drills on Day 1, Christian McCaffrey, Nick Bosa, and Trent Williams were back in the mix during team drills, working through 11-on-11 sessions for the first time this camp. Their presence brought a noticeable boost to the tempo and energy.
  • Cornerbacks Tre Brown and rookie Upton Stout rotated in for first-team defensive reps, giving the coaching staff an early look at different combinations in the backfield.
  • Brock Purdy had an impressive day at camp on Thursday. The quarterback was sharp throughout the session, and the Purdy-Kittle connection was on full display. The highlight of the day came when Purdy dropped a perfect deep ball along the right sideline into TE George Kittle's hands, drawing loud cheers from fans in the bleachers.
  • On the defensive side, one of the biggest highlights came from rookie linebacker Stone Blanton. The undrafted free agent flashed his instincts, jumping a route and intercepting a pass from QB Tanner Mordecai.

What's Next

The 49ers will return to the practice field tomorrow before a scheduled player-off day on Saturday. They'll close out the weekend with one more non-padded session on Sunday, then shift into padded workouts for the first time on Monday.
