Jeff Deeney of Pro Football Focus has released the top grades following the San Francisco 49ers Week 16 matchup against the Chicago Bears. Here's a look at which 49ers stood out last Sunday.
San Francisco's tight end earned the 49ers top grade on offense at 78.2. Kittle led the 49ers with 74 yards on seven receptions, including a 35-yard pick up in the fourth quarter. Kittle is now PFF’s top-graded tight end in the NFL with an 88.4 grade on the season.
2. Laken Tomlinson
The 49ers left guard allowed just one quarterback pressure in 40 pass blocking snaps. Tomlinson earned an 83.1 pass blocking grade against the Bears vaunted pass rush.
"(Tomlinson and Joe Staley) got better as the year went," Kyle Shanahan said on Wednesday. "I think they both came back better this year just having a year in the system. Both have been able to stay healthy throughout the year, and I think it's made both of them go in the right direction."
3. Solomon Thomas
Thomas has now strung together notable performances in back-to-back games. The second-year defensive lineman earned San Francisco's top overall grade among defensive starters at 76.4, his second highest grade of the season. Thomas totaled two quarterback pressures and four tackles. Thomas has a 77.9 grade over the last two weeks which ranks 15th out of 103 edge defenders.
4. Greg Mabin
The second-year cornerback earned an 80.7 overall grade in his 10 defensive snaps. He also recorded a fumble recovery against the Bears late in the fourth quarter. Mabin was not targeted on in the pass game and drew a holding call in punt coverage.
5. D.J. Reed Jr.
Reed entered the game in place of K'Waun Williams who went out with a knee injury in the third quarter. Reed earned a 79.0 overall grade in his 20 snaps played. He allowed just two catches for 11 yards in coverage.
