Your Biggest Week 1 Questions vs. Seattle, Answered

The Faithful had questions, and I've got the answers.

Each week throughout the season, fans will have the chance to submit their questions on Instagram, and I'll answer them here in this dedicated Q&A series. It's an opportunity to hear directly from the Faithful and highlight the storylines you care about most.

With the 2025 season officially kicking off, the 49ers are set to open on the road against the division rival Seattle Seahawks. There's plenty of anticipation around how the team will set the tone in Week 1, let's dive into your questions!

Q: What is something you want to/are excited to see from the team in Week 1? – @annakendick_

This is the first time we'll see all the stars out there together, and I'm excited to watch how the playmakers set the tone right away. On offense, WR Ricky Pearsall has made a strong impression, and Week 1 feels like the perfect chance for him to show what he can do. I'll also be keeping an eye on new dad QB Brock Purdy taking command of the offense under coordinator Klay Kubiak, and of course, the energy TE George Kittle always brings. Defensively, with Robert Saleh back as coordinator, I'm looking forward to seeing his sideline intensity again. The biggest thing for me, though, is watching how rookies like DL Mykel Williams and CB Upton Stout step into the spotlight.

Q: What rookies should we be paying more attention to during our Week 1 game against the Seahawks? – @bigvase_

When it comes to rookies in this matchup, keep an eye on the battle in the trenches. Seattle spent its first-round pick on North Dakota State's Grey Zabel, a versatile offensive lineman expected to play a big role right away. On the 49ers side, the front office loaded up on defensive talent, using their first five draft picks on that side of the ball. First-rounder Mykel Williams headlines the group, and rookie defensive linemen Alfred Collins and C.J. West should also see opportunities to prove themselves against a physical Seahawks run game.

Q: Who will start at safety and slot? – @sir_g.brown

I'd expect the secondary to feature Jason Pinnock at free safety, a veteran free-agent addition who spent the past four seasons with the Jets and Giants and has familiarity with Robert Saleh. At strong safety, Ji'Ayir Brown is heading into his third season with the 49ers and continues to grow into a bigger role. In the slot, rookie Upton Stout, a third-round pick who impressed throughout training camp, looks poised to step in at nickel.

Q: Will the game stream on the 49ers app? – @viciousv408

You can listen to the Week 1 game on the 49ers app with both English and Spanish radio broadcasts available (in-market). To watch the game through the app, fans will need an NFL+ subscription. Live updates, highlights, and coverage will also be posted on 49ers.com and across the team's official social channels.

Q: If you could send one message directly to the Faithful before Week 1 what would it be? – @nicole._.cotton

Buckle up, it all starts now! This season has all the makings of a memorable one, and I can't wait to experience every moment alongside the Faithful. It's always special to bring fans closer to the team, and I'm excited for everything this season will bring.

Q: What is the team's philosophy/strategy for developing players? – @bellamartinez_13

The 49ers leadership has often said that "the draft is the lifeblood" of the team and the key to sustained success. Since general manager and president of football operations John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan came together in 2017, the front office has worked to fine-tune its draft process, finding the right players who fit the system and then pouring into their development over the years. That's how players like George Kittle (fifth round, 2017), Fred Warner (third round, 2018), Nick Bosa (first round, 2019), and Brandon Aiyuk (first round, 2020) become NFL stars.

Q: How does it feel to be a reporter for the best team in the NFL? – @jd8._8

It's a privilege and honestly a dream come true! Every day I get to cover this team, I'm reminded of how special it is to celebrate with the best fans in the NFL.

Q: Is Trent Williams healthy? – @jason447116

After taking a veteran rest day on Wednesday, Trent Williams participated fully in Thursday's practice. He's ready to go for Week 1, and having him anchoring the offensive line is always a huge boost for the team.

Q: What are the chances Sigle starts? How's Malik coming along? – @kool_rulah

Marques Sigle missed the offseason program due to an injury, but he's stepped up in training camp and looks ready to contribute, earning praise from Robert Saleh for his preparation and instincts. Malik Mustapha is still on the PUP list and won't return until at least Week 6, which has opened the door for Sigle to see early snaps alongside Pinnock.

Q: Is Jauan going to play? – @oneachord831

Jauan Jennings, who missed several weeks with a calf injury, is expected to play on Sunday. Shanahan noted he's healthy enough to play, and while he'll be eased back into action this week, everything points to him being on the field for Week 1.

Q: Will the 49ers wear their new uniforms against the Seahawks? – @dub49giant

The 49ers will wear their new Rivalry uniforms in Week 18, when they host the Seahawks at home. Designed with the Faithful in mind, the debut will be in front of the home crowd. For Week 1 in Seattle, the team will wear their primary white uniforms as they open the season on the road.

Q: When and where can I get a rivalry jersey? – @211__david

Limited-edition Rivalries jerseys, sideline apparel, and gear will be available starting September 10. Fans can purchase these items at Shop49ers.com, Nike.com, NFLShop.com, Fanatics.com, Riddell.com, NewEraCap.com, team stores, and other retail locations.
