On this day, Steve Spurrier had his most prolific day as a San Francisco 49ers quarterback.

He threw five touchdown passes in a 34-21 win over the Chicago Bears. Spurrier completed 17-of-27 throws for 275 yards with scoring passes to four different receivers: Gene Washington, Vic Washington, Larry Schreiber and Ted Kwalick. Spurrier finished the 1972 season with 18 touchdown passes, second best in the NFL.
