On this day, 49ers wide receiver Gordy Soltau emerged as a one-man scoring machine in a 44-17 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

He opened the game with a 23-yard field goal, and then caught touchdown passes of 10, 13 and 48 yards from quarterback Frankie Albert. He added five PATs to finish the day with 26 points, a single-game record that stood for nearly 40 years until Jerry Rice broke it in 1990.
