This Day in The Bay: McNeil Records 65-Yard Score in 49ers Win vs. Lions

October 27, 1968

On this day, 49ers wide receiver Clifton McNeil hauled in nine of quarterback John Brodie's passes for 143 yards and a 65-yard score in the 49ers 14-7 win over the Detroit Lions at Tiger Stadium.

McNeil was the NFL's leading receiver in 1968 with 71 receptions for 994 yards. Prior to joining the 49ers in a trade with Cleveland in 1968, McNeil recorded just 12 receptions in four NFL seasons.
