In 1977, the DeBartolo family purchased the San Francisco 49ers and the 31-year-old DeBartolo Jr. became the club's principal owner and team president. Under his leadership, the 49ers won five Super Bowls. More importantly, DeBartolo Jr. earned the respect of players, coaches and employees for his generosity and commitment to the team's family atmosphere.
