This Day in The Bay: Candlestick Park Officially Opens

On this day, Candlestick Park officially opened for NFL football as the 49ers hosted the Los Angeles Rams in front of 44,000 spectators.

San Francisco kicker Bruce Gossett put the first points on the scoreboard with a 24-yard field goal. John Brodie hit tight end Ted Kwalick with a nine-yard pass for the 49ers first Candlestick Park touchdown. On defense, the 49ers allowed just two completions as Los Angeles recorded -18 yards passing.
