On this day, Bill McPherson was born in Santa Clara, CA.

McPherson served as a 49ers coach and administrator through four decades. McPherson joined Bill Walsh's coaching staff in 1979 as a linebackers coach and moved through the ranks as a defensive coordinator, assistant head coach and personnel director, gathering five Super Bowl rings along the way. McPherson attended and also coached at Bellarmine College Preparatory and Santa Clara University.
