On this day, the San Francisco 49ers recorded their first shutout as an NFL franchise, beating the Detroit Lions 28-0 at Briggs Stadium in Detroit.

San Francisco's defense, led by Leo Nomellini, Charlie Powell and Hardy Brown, limited the Lions to 65 yards of total offense and four first downs. Linebacker Don Burke picked off a Bobby Layne pass and returned it 35 yards for a 49ers score.
