The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have signed CB Eli Apple, DL Xavier Thomas and RB Zamir White to one-year deals. In order to make room on the roster, the team waived WR Junior Bergen, P Jack Bouwmeester and waived/injured DL K.J. Henry.
Apple (6-1, 203) was originally drafted by the New York Giants as the 10th overall selection of the 2016 NFL Draft. Throughout his 10-year NFL career with the Giants (2016-18), New Orleans Saints (2018-19), Carolina Panthers (2020), Cincinnati Bengals (2021-22), Miami Dolphins (2023), Los Angeles Chargers (2024) and the 49ers (2025), he has appeared in 104 games (82 starts) and registered 380 tackles, 61 passes defensed, seven fumble recoveries, six interceptions, three forced fumbles and 0.5 sack. He has also appeared in 12 postseason contests (11 starts) and totaled 56 tackles and six passes defensed. In 2025 with the 49ers, Apple appeared in two games and tallied one tackle on special teams. He was later waived by the team on August 2, 2026.
A 31-year-old native of Voorhees Township, NJ, Apple attended Ohio State University for three seasons (2013-15) where he appeared in 28 games (27 starts) and registered 86 tackles, 18 passes defensed, four interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble and was named Second-Team All Big-Ten in 2015 and Freshman All-America in 2014.
Thomas (6-2, 250) was originally drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the fifth round (138th overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft. Throughout his two-year NFL career with the Cardinals (2024-25), he has appeared in 18 games and registered 10 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one pass defensed and one forced fumble. In 2025, Thomas appeared in four games with the Cardinals.
A 26-year-old native of Florence, SC, Thomas attended Clemson University for six seasons (2018-24) where he appeared in 61 games (30 starts) and registered 121 tackles, 17.5 sacks, seven passes defensed, six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. In 2021, he earned Third-Team All-ACC honors.
White (5-11, 227) was originally drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in the fourth round (122nd overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft. Throughout his four-year NFL career with the Raiders (2022-25), he has appeared in 45 games (nine starts) and registered 198 carries for 736 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to go along with 25 receptions for 152 yards through the air. In 2025, White appeared in six games and totaled 12 carries for 32 yards and added four receptions for 24 yards.
A 26-year-old native of Laurinburg, NC, White attended the University of Georgia for four seasons (2018-21) where he appeared in 38 games (23 starts) and registered 382 carries for 2,043 yards and 25 touchdowns on the ground to go along with 17 receptions for 132 yards through the air.
Bergen (5-9, 184) signed a Reserve/Future contract with the team on January 20, 2026.
Bouwmeester (6-3, 209) originally signed with the team on July 18, 2026.
Henry (6-4, 255) originally signed with the team on July 29, 2026.
