The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have re-signed WR Russell Gage Jr. to a one-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team released S Richie Grant. Additionally, the team signed QB Adrian Martinez, RB Sincere McCormick and WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the team's practice squad.
Gage Jr. (6-0, 184) was originally drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the sixth round (194th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. Throughout his seven-year NFL career with the Falcons (2018-21), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2022-24), Baltimore Ravens (2024) and 49ers (2024), he has appeared in 74 games (25 starts) and registered 244 receptions for 2,491 yards and 14 touchdowns and added six carries for 21 yards. He has also appeared in one postseason contest where he tallied two receptions for 10 yards. In 2024, Gage signed with the Ravens on August 6, 2024, was waived by the team on August 26, 2024 and signed to the 49ers practice squad on November 6, 2024. He then signed a Reserve/Future contract with San Francisco on January 7, 2025 prior to being released by the team on August 26, 2025.
A 29-year-old native of Baton Rouge, LA, Gage attended the Louisiana State University (2014-18) where he appeared in 27 games (six starts) and totaled 26 receptions for 347 yards and four touchdowns while adding 28 carries for 232 yards and one touchdown.
Martinez (6-2, 220) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. After being waived by the Lions on August 28, 2023, Martinez signed with the New York Jets on July 27, 2024, where he spent the year on the team's practice squad. He was waived by the Jets on August 24, 2025.
A 25-year-old native of Fresno, CA, Martinez attended the University of Nebraska (2018-21) and Kansas State University (2022) where he appeared in 49 games (47 starts) and completed 788 of his 1,239 passing attempts (63.6 percent) and 51 touchdowns through the air to go along with 619 carries for 2,928 yards (4.7 average) and 45 touchdowns. As a senior in 2022, he earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors.
McCormick (5-8, 204) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2022. Throughout his three years with the Raiders (2022-24), he has appeared in five games (two starts) and registered 39 carries for 183 yards (4.7 average) on the ground and six receptions for 29 yards (4.8 average) through the air.
A 24-year-old native of Long Beach, CA, McCormick attended the University of Texas-San Antonio for three seasons (2019-21) where he appeared in 37 games and recorded 724 carries for 3,939 yards (5.4 average) and 34 touchdowns on the ground to go along with 66 receptions for 509 yards (7.7 average) and one touchdown through the air. He was twice named First-Team All-Conference USA and Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year (2020-21) and earned AP Third-Team All-American honors in his final season (2021).
Valdes-Scantling (6-4, 206) was originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round (174th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. Throughout his seven-year NFL career with the Packers (2018-21), Kansas City Chiefs (2022-23), Buffalo Bills (2024) and New Orleans Saints (2024), he has appeared in 106 games (68 starts) and registered 205 receptions for 3,566 yards and 20 touchdowns and added 10 carries for 52 yards. He has also appeared in 11 postseason contests (seven starts) and registered 24 receptions for 406 yards and four touchdowns. In 2024, Valdes-Scantling appeared in 14 games (eight starts) and registered 19 receptions for 411 yards and four touchdowns.
A 30-year-old native of St. Petersburg, FL, Valdes-Scantling attended North Carolina State (2013-14) before transferring to the University of South Florida (2016-17) where he appeared in 45 games and registered 119 receptions for 1,832 yards and 12 touchdowns to go along with 10 receptions for 112 yards and one touchdown.
Grant (6-0, 200) originally signed with the team on March 13, 2025.
