Australian Athletes Who've Made Their Mark Across Bay Area Sports

Over the years, Australian athletes have made their mark across Bay Area sports, from NBA champions and MLB All-Stars to rising talent in the WNBA. Now, the 49ers have added another Australian to the mix with punter Jack Bouwmeester, who could have the opportunity to return home and play an NFL game in his home stadium.

Here's a look at some of the Australian athletes who have helped strengthen the connection between Australia and the Bay Area.

Jack Bouwmeester | San Francisco 49ers

  • Bendigo native who signed with the 49ers in July 2026 after playing collegiately at Michigan State, Utah, and Texas.

  • Could have the opportunity to return home country and play in front of family and friends at the Melbourne Cricket Ground if he earns a spot on the 49ers final 53-man roster.

"I've been telling everyone here how good the MCG is and how I grew up going to watch footy there with my dad," Bouwmeester told the Daily Telegraph. "It's just awesome."

Andrew Bogut | Golden State Warriors
