Quick Observations About the 49ers 2025 Regular Season Schedule

Faithful, the wait is over! The San Francisco 49ers 2025 regular season schedule has been revealed, so you can get started on your gameday plans for the fall.

Let's breakdown some of the things that make this upcoming season's lineup unique.

As a reminder, opponents were set in Week 17 of the 2024 season after the 49ers were locked into their division ranking. In 2025, the 49ers will face all NFC West teams twice along with fellow fourth-place teams from the NFC North, NFC East and AFC North. The schedule will also include matchups with every team from the NFC South and AFC South.

So, what should you expect in the upcoming season? The Niners will play eight of their matchups at Levi's® Stadium and nine contests on the road. Six of the team's first nine games of the season will be away, so there is a lot less travel for the team on the backend of schedule. Also, for the first time in the Kyle Shanahan-John Lynch era, San Francisco has their Bye Week slated for Week 14. The latest the team has ever had their Bye under the current head coach and president of football operations/general manager is Week 11, which happened during in the 2017, 2018, and 2020 seasons.

The 2025 slate also features five games in primetime, three of which will be played in Santa Clara, CA. The other two, against the Los Angeles Rams (Week 5) and Indianapolis Colts (Week 16), will be hosted at SoFi Stadium and Lucas Oil Stadium, respectively.

Additionally, San Francisco will have just four matchups against playoff teams from last year — the team will face the Rams twice in addition to games against the Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

According to CBS Sports' Robert Breech, the 49ers have the easiest strength of schedule of all 32 clubs in 2025, boasting an opponent win percentage of 0.415. One thing to keep in mind is that this strength of schedule calculation is simply a measure of a team's opponents' combined 2024 win percentage. It does not account for things such as roster turnover, coaching changes, and injuries, among other things, that affect the type of challenge each opponent will pose in the upcoming season. A couple of other factors that play into the 49ers strength of schedule are the team's fourth-place finish in the NFC West last season and the rotating NFL schedule formula that determines remaining opponents.

While strength of schedule is favorable for San Francisco, the team is in the top five in total linear miles (28,363) they will travel in the upcoming season, according to Bill Speros of Bookies.com. They are No. 5 on the list behind the Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and Jacksonville Jaguars.
