LONDON – The 49ers defense has forced 13 turnovers in the past five games. All of them have led to points (nine touchdowns and four field goals) during a five-game winning streak.
The 49ers even scored a touchdown on lucky turnover No. 13.
Veteran linebacker Dan Skuta scooped up a Marcedes Lewis fumble, forced by Joe Staley, and returned it 47 yards for a 49ers touchdown.
It was the final points in San Francisco's 42-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium.
"It was great to see Dan take it to the house and not get tackled inside the 5 (yard line)," said Willis, who forced his second forced fumble of the season and 16th of his career, to set up San Francisco's second defensive touchdown of the year.
It turned out to be Skuta's first touchdown in the NFL and the first since he was a high school running back in Michigan.
"That was the first real carry I've had in awhile," Skuta said after the 49ers held the Jaguars to 10 points on the international stage.
Willis was most pleased to see the starting outside linebacker find his way into the end zone for the 49ers. He didn't get to admire Skuta running down the left sideline – Willis and his defensive teammates were too busy blocking.
The defensive touchdown was purely style points in a one-sided game.
San Francisco's current five-game winning streak saw San Francisco truly dominate Jacksonville in the first half, holding the home team to 3 points, 7 first downs and 106 yards of offense.
After the one-sided first half of Sunday's showcase game in London, the Jaguars milked seven minutes and change off the clock to start the third quarter but were turned over on downs at San Francisco's 6-yard line. Chad Henne's fourth-down pass fell at the feet of slot wide receiver Mike Brown.
Henne could never get into a rhythm with his receivers. Despite not being sacked on the night, Jacksonville's quarterback completed 29 of 45 passes for 228 yards with one touchdown and a quarterback rating of 84.3. Star wide receiver Justin Blackmon finished the game with four catches for 31 yards. He entered the game averaging 128 yards per game.
The Jaguars only touchdown came following a Frank Gore fumble. Henne found Brown on a double-move for a 29-yard touchdown pass. The 49ers led 28-10 with 3:00 left in the third quarter and went on to add a 2-yard Gore touchdown and Skuta's fumble return.
