Saxton of Seaside is Week 6 HS Player of the Week

The 49ers High School Player of the Week Award for week 6 goes to Ronald Saxton of Seaside High School.

The senior quarterback went 19 of 24 for 319 yards and five touchdowns, and also added 64 rushing yards to help Seaside defeat Watsonville 35-14 on Friday night.

"[Saxton] makes defenses prepare for two offenses," said Spartans' head coach Alfred Avila of his senior leader's talents. Saxton's unique athletic ability allows Avila to run an offense using multiple formations to capitalize on Saxton's passing and running abilities.

"[Watsonville] tried to put pressure on him," Avila said. "They think they have him, but they become tired of chasing him around. It comes easy for him. He's the type of player who makes us look good as coaches."

Avila has also been pleased with Saxton's leadership and attitude on and off the field. Saxton carries a 3.4 GPA this quarter and according to his coach, fully represents the foundation of Seaside's football program – Men of Character, Men Who Serve Others.

For his efforts, the 49ers honor Seaside quarterback Ronald Saxton as this week's High School Player of the Week.

As the home school of the 49ers High School Player of the Week, Seaside High School will receive a $500 grant for their football program. Saxton will receive a 49ers hat and t-shirt, a certificate signed by 49ers Head Coach Mike Singletary, two tickets to a 49ers home game and recognition on 49ers.com. At the end of the season, Saxton will be invited to the 49ers Training Facility to accept a trophy recognizing his achievement.
