The release of the 2018 regular season NFL schedule has left us with just one lingering question… "Are you ready for some football?"

While we're still four months away from September, that doesn't curb the thrill of the most anticipated matchups of the season.

The additions of Jimmy Garoppolo, Jerick McKinnon and Richard Sherman, along with San Francisco's strong finish in 2017 only adds intrigue to the five (you heard me correctly) prime-time games the 49ers have slated this season.

Adam Schein of NFL.com ranked his top nine prime-time matchups in 2018. The 49ers Week 7 divisional home game against the Los Angeles Rams topped his list at No. 1.

Here's what Schein had to say about the "Sunday Night Football" matchup:

"Yeah. That's right. My favorite prime-time game this year is Rams at 49ers. Having this old-school rivalry relevant again -- and back in its SoCal vs. NorCal form -- is gold.

"The Rams are absolutely loaded. The Niners boast the unbeatable Jimmy Garoppolo. Both teams are thinking playoffs -- and none of that one-and-done business. Both teams are fueled by brilliant young offensive-minded head coaches: Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay make games fun to watch. I cannot wait to see them match wits in this midseason showdown. Oh, and then there's all of the intriguing newbies to this rivalry: Richard Sherman and Jerick McKinnon in San Francisco; Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters, Ndamukong Suh and Brandin Cooks in Los Angeles."

This late October matchup has the potential of having early playoff implications for both clubs. Last season, the Rams and 49ers split the season 1-1. Los Angeles hopes to return to the postseason for the second-straight year while San Francisco seeks its first playoff appearance since 2013.

The 49ers have four additional prime-time games. They visit the Green Bay Packers in Week 6 on "Monday Night Football." San Francisco hosts the Oakland Raiders on "Thursday Night Football" in Week 9. The team also hosts the New York Giants on "Monday Night Football" in Week 10. Finally, the 49ers will travel to Seattle for a matchup on "Sunday Night Football" against the Seahawks. Check out a full rundown of the 49ers 16-game slate.
