Morning Tailgate: Eric Wright Faces Ol' Buccaneers

Come to think of it, Eric Wright played only 10 games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012.

Their marriage wasn't nearly as long as it seemed, nor nearly as long as it was supposed to be.

Now he's due for a reunion. The 49ers and their emerging nickel cornerback visit the Bucs as part of Week 15 action.

"I know a lot of the guys there, I know the coaching staff and am familiar with some of the things they're doing there," Wright said. "Then again, it's a new year, it's a fresh start for them, a new team.

"I approach it the same way, prepare, get my film (review) in, and work hard throughout the week and try to get a win."

After five strong years in the NFL, Wright signed a five-year contract with Tampa Bay two offseasons ago. It appeared he'd found his home.

He returned an interception for a touchdown, recovered a fumble and made 34 tackles for his team.

Then he was headed out the door after it finished 7-9 under then-first-year coach Greg Schiano.

But Wright, now 28, knows this year's Bucs, even at their 4-9 pace, remain a dangerous team.

"We know that we're going to get their best shot. We know that their record may not even reflect the type of ability and the type of team that they really are," Wright said. "It's an opponent that we're excited to face, and we're excited to have a challenge like this so late in the season with a team that is going to go out there and throw it all out there on the line."
