The Homestead Mustangs keep their streak alive, winning their sixth straight game after defeating the Gunn Titans 42-14. Friday night's win keeps the Mustangs tied atop the El Camino division with Cupertino High. The division title could come down to the last game of the season when Homestead hosts cross-town rival Cupertino in the head-to-head matchup for first place.

The Mustangs' ground attack led the way for the win against the Titans. All six of Homestead's touchdowns came on the ground, with the exception of one punt return for a touchdown. The Mustangs finished with 290 total rushing yards. A run first team, Homestead takes great pride in the success of their run game this season. It is something they put a great deal of emphasis on in the offseason and it certainly has proved to have paid off for the Mustangs.

"We really put a lot of time and effort into to working on our offensive line this summer. Credit Coach Placencia. We really worked a lot on that group this offseason and they have played really well for us," said Homestead Head Coach Milo Lewis.

Homestead's defense continued to stand strong in the week nine win as well.

"Anytime you can hold a team to 14 points and less than 100 rushing yards is pretty good," said Coach Lewis. "Our defense has been great. It was just a great win for us."

On average, Homestead has held teams to under 20 points in all of their wins, two of which they kept out of the end zone entirely.

Coach Lewis has spent his entire coaching career at Homestead High School. Lewis was an assistant coach for seven years before taking over the reigns as head coach in 2012.

In addition to being a long-time coach, Lewis is also a special education teacher. He has worked in special education for over 11 years, and it is something very near to his heart.

"You have to give back to the kids. I want to do the same thing for these kids that others did for me growing up," said Coach Lewis.

Homestead is currently 6-2 and 4-0 in league play as they remain tied for first place in the division. The Mustangs prepare to host Lynbrook Friday night in an effort to maintain pace.

"I want to give big ups to Cupertino, Los Altos, and the rest of our league. We have ourselves a good league in the El Camino division this year. It's exciting," said Coach Lewis.

As our Coach of the Week, Milo Lewis will receive a $1,000 grant for the Homestead High School football program from the 49ers Foundation. As part of this award, he will also receive two tickets to a 49ers home game where he will be recognized on the field. The week prior to the game, Coach Lewis will be invited to the visit the SAP Performance Facility to watch a closed practice where 49ers head coach Chip Kelly will officially present him with his award. Coach Lewis will also be featured on Cal-Hi Sports during their programming this weekend.

Congratulations, Coach Lewis!
