Kiesle named High School Coach of the Week

The San Francisco 49ers Charlie Wedemeyer Coach of the Week award for Week 4 goes to coach Matt Kiesle from Piedmont Hills High School.

Last Friday the Piedmont Hills Pirates defeated the Oak Grove Eagles 49-31.

Piedmont Hills high opened this year's bid for a Mount Hamilton Division title with a bang.  In a game that turned into a shoot out, the Pirates were able to outpace the Eagles and finished the game strong with 21 fourth quarter points.

Although the final score would suggest a runaway victory, Coach Matt Kiesle admitted that it was anything but that.

"We knew we couldn't relax with those guys" Kiesle said about a tough Eagles team that pulled within four points in the third quarter. "We had to keep the pedal to the metal."

The Pirates offense was directed by quarterback Jason Harms, who threw four touchdowns behind a stout offensive line led by senior captain Aaron Moorman.  Juquelle Thompson also had a big night with two receiving touchdowns and a crucial 85 yards kickoff return that seemed to ignite the Pirates offense.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jonah Moon was a "tackling machine" according to Kiesle.

"He has been all over the field this year," Kiesle said.

It was through the fast-paced offense and never-say-die attitude of the defense that secured the Pirates their first victory of this year's Mount Hamilton Division title campaign.

For Piedmont Hills' outstanding team effort, the San Francisco 49ers have selected Coach Matt Kiesle as the Charlie Wedemeyer High School Coach of the Week.

In addition to being named Coach of the Week, coach Kiesle and the Piedmont Hills High School football program will receive $1,000 from the 49ers Foundation.
