Foster Questionable, Seven 49ers Out for Week 9 vs. Cardinals

The San Francisco 49ers have had their share of injuries through eight weeks of the season. Looking ahead to Sunday's contest against the Arizona Cardinals, seven 49ers have been ruled out of the Week 9 divisional matchup.

The 49ers took a huge loss as John Lynch announced Thursday on KNBR that Pierre Garçon would be placed on injured reserved after suffering a non-displaced fracture of the c5 pedicle in his neck. Garçon led the team with 40 receptions for 500 yards, and was on pace for his third 1,000-plus-yard season. San Francisco will have look towards its young receiving corps in the veteran's absence.

Kyle Shanahan announced on Wednesday he expects to be without both Joe Staley (eye) and Solomon Thomas (knee) for 2-3 weeks. Staley and Thomas could potentially return to the 49ers lineup in Week 12 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Garry Gilliam (knee), D.J. Jones (knee), Aaron Lynch (calf) and K'Waun Williams (quadricep) are all ruled out for Sunday's contest.

Offensive lineman Brandon Fusco, who missed Wednesday's practice with a biceps injury, will be a game time decision. However, Trent Brown who suffered a concussion in Week 7 against the Cowboys, was a full participant this week at practice and is set to return to action on Sunday.

The 49ers expect rookie linebacker Reuben Foster to be active on Sunday. Foster was projected to play last week against the Philadelphia Eagles after suffering a rib injury in Week 7, but after experiencing spasms during the long trip, he was inactive for the game. Foster's return could be timely in preparing for Adrian Peterson and the Cardinals offense.

The complete list of inactive players will be released 90 minutes prior to kickoff on Sunday. Stay tuned to 49ers.com for updates.
