Coach Dave Bottom's Everett Alvarez Eagles advanced to 5-0 against the Pajaro Valley Grizzlies in a Friday night Homecoming shutout. The Eagles have not soared through many homecoming victories over recent years, however with Coach Bottom and the Everett Alvarez coaching staff taking on their second season, the undefeated team claimed a 30-0 victory. The team proved they are a force to be reckoned with, running the ball 34 times and accumulation 240 yards over the four quarters.

"It was a strong game—a clean game," said Bottom.

Everett Alvarez's strengths shone early as junior quarterback Edric Gamble ran 27 yards for a touchdown on the opening drive. Leading rusher Cesar Ramirez had 98 yards in the game and two touchdowns, one of which put the Eagles at 14 at the half. Bottom's Arizona flex-defense led by outside linebackers Rene Chavez who had 13 tackles in the game and Jose Jimenez with 7, held the Grizzlies, allowing the Eagles to lead the half 14-0.

Gamble's athletic talents accrued 43 yards on 6 carries, while fellow teammates like No. 5 Pablo Fergoso attributed in the end zone to make the final 30-0, Eagles.

"These kids continue to play fast and be smart," stated Coach Bottom, "It was an overall team game out there."

The Eagles are smart on the field, and ensure they apply the same approach to their academics. With weekly grade checks and Bottom's, "you miss a class, you miss a quarter" rule, the team portrays a strong work ethic on and off the turf. These morals along with victories have taken off in Coach Bottom's second year as head coach at Everett Alvarez High School. Last season the team was instilled with a new structure, and this year they have achieved their first winning season since 2004.

"The players keep me in this game," expressed Bottom who has been coaching for 13 years, "When they learn something new, work as a group, and overall have fun in the game—that is what continues to drive me."

In addition to being named Coach of the Week, the Everett Alvarez football program will receive $1,000 from the 49ers Foundation.  Coach Bottom will also be featured in a KRON 4 interview with Gary Radnich, receive two tickets to a 49ers home game where he will be recognized on the field before the game, as well as an article on 49ers.com. In the weeks leading up to the on-field recognition, Bottom will be invited to visit the 49ers training facility in Santa Clara to watch a private practice and receive a certificate from 49ers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh.
