Ahkello Witherspoon Trains with Richard Sherman and Other Elite NFL Corners

It is often said that who you are is a reflection of the company you keep. Well, while many NFL players around the league are off enjoying their summer break, second-year cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon found himself among an elite crowd.

In a video posted by Richard Sherman, Witherspoon was seen training with Pro Bowl corners Aqib Talib of the Los Angeles Rams, Xavier Rhodes of the Minnesota Vikings and Darius Slay of the Detroit Lions at Stanford on Tuesday. In the video, Sherman is also getting his own work in with speed and agility trainer Rischad Whitfield.

Even Tom Brady took notice of the workout, rallying a few of his fellow signal callers with the comment "can't let you get the edge on us."

Since his arrival in San Francisco, Sherman has willingly embraced a leadership role among the 49ers young secondary. This is just another example of Sherman taking a keen interest in Witherspoon. The workout is also indicative of Sherman's belief in Witherspoon's potential. Sherman appears to be on track for his return at training camp later next month. Both he and Witherspoon are expected to be the 49ers starting cornerbacks this season.

Witherspoon aside, all four veteran corners combine for 356 passes defended, 89 interceptions and 12 Pro Bowls. That's impressive company for the promising young corner to be surrounded by heading into Year 2.
