The 49ers announced five players have been waived from the team.

Scott Tolzien, a third-year quarterback, headlined the group. The former undrafted quarterback out of Wisconsin was signed by San Francisco prior to the 2011 season. Tolzien served as the 49ers No. 3 signal-caller the past two years. He was the only quarterback on the roster to not see action in the team's 34-14 preseason win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night.

In addition, San Francisco waived offensive lineman Al Netter, running back D.J. Harper, punter Colton Schmidt and linebacker Joe Holland.

The 49ers roster currently stands at 85. The team will soon announce additional roster moves to trim down to the league mandated 75-man limit by 1:00 p.m. PT on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
