49ers Sign WR Max McCaffrey, Place WR Victor Bolden on IR

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed WR Max McCaffreyfrom the Green Bay Packers practice squad to a two-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team has placed WR Victor Bolden Jr.on the Injured Reserve List.

McCaffrey(6-2, 200) originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Oakland Raiders on May 10, 2016. He was waived by Oakland on August 29, 2016 and signed to the Green Bay Packers practice squad on December 20, 2016. On January 21, 2017, McCaffrey was promoted to the Packers active roster and was inactive for the NFC Championship against the Atlanta Falcons. 

This season, he was waived by Green Bay on September 2, 2017, and later signed to the New Orleans Saints practice squad on September 4. On September 12, he was signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars active roster where he appeared in five games and registered one reception for four yards prior to being waived by the team on October 21. He was signed to the Packers practice squad on October 24.

A 23-year-old native of Highlands Ranch, CO, McCaffrey attended Duke University, where he appeared in 53 games (38 starts) and registered 117 receptions for 1,341 yards (11.5 average) and 12 touchdowns. His father, Ed, spent 13 seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants (1991-93), San Francisco 49ers (1994) and the Denver Broncos (1995-2003) and his brother, Christian, plays for the Carolina Panthers.

Bolden Jr.(5-8, 178) signed with the 49ers as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 4, 2017. He appeared in nine games this season and registered 19 kickoff returns for 396 yards, four punt returns for 23 yards and one forced fumble on special teams.
