49ers Sign TE Wes Saxton

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Tuesday that they have signed TE Wes Saxton to a one-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team waived CB C.J. Goodwin.

Saxton (6-4 235) was originally signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent on May 8, 2015. He appeared in one game in 2015 after spending time between the team's practice squad and active roster. Following his release from the Jets on September 3, 2016, he was signed to the Washington Redskins practice squad on September 5, 2016 where he spent the remainder of the season. In 2017, he spent part of the offseason with the Redskins and Buffalo Bills and was released by Buffalo on September 2, 2017. He signed with the Detroit Lions on June 4, 2018 and was waived by the team on June 14.

A 24-year-old native of Birmingham, AL, Saxton attended the University of South Alabama.
