The San Francisco 49ers announced on Tuesday that they have signed running back Travaris Cadet to a one-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team has released running back Pierre Thomas.

Cadet (6-1, 210) originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2012. In three seasons with the Saints (2012-14), he appeared in 41 games (one start) and registered 11 carries for 37 yards as well as 45 receptions for 345 yards and two touchdowns. He signed with the New England Patriots as a free agent on March 17, 2015, where he appeared in one game before his release from the team on Sept. 29.

A 26-year-old native of Miami, Fla., Cadet attended Appalachian State for three seasons (2009-11) after transferring from Pearl River Community College and Toledo. He earned All-Southern Conference honors twice while serving as a running back and returner for the Mountaineers, finishing his collegiate career with 336 carries for 1,688 rushing yards to go along with 1,376 kickoff return yards.

Thomas (5-11, 215) originally signed with the 49ers on Nov. 3. He registered four carries for 12 yards in his only game with the team against the Atlanta Falcons.

Cadet took to social media to express gratitude on being signed.
