49ers Sign DT Curry to Future Contract

The San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday the signing of defensive tackle Walter Curry (Albany State) to a future contract.

Curry (6-4, 275), was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Baltimore Ravens on April 29, 2005. He spent the entire 2007 season on the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice squad, where he was also a member for six weeks in 2006 and 10 weeks in 2005.

Curry gained valuable experience playing in NFL Europa in 2006 and 2007. He was a member of the Berlin Thunder in 2007, ranking tied for second on the team with 5.5 sacks. In 2006 with the Rhein Fire, Curry started seven of 10 games at defensive tackle and recorded 21 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and two passes defensed. San Francisco defensive line coach Jim Tomsula served as head coach of the Fire in 2006.

Curry was a two-time All-Conference Defensive Player of the Year in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while at Albany State, leading his team to a Conference Championship as a senior.
