49ers Sign Draft Pick Glen Coffee

The San Francisco 49ers announced today that they have signed third-round draft choice RB Glen Coffee to a four-year contract.

Coffee (6-0, 209) was an All-SEC selection and 2008 Doak Walker Award semi-finalist with the Crimson Tide. While at Alabama, he played in 35 games (17 starts), finishing his career with 2,107 rushing yards on 410 carries with 14 touchdowns and 42 catches for 351 yards and two touchdowns.

Coffee tallied 1,383 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in 2008. His rushing yardage tied Shaun Alexander as the second-best total in school history, while his 5.9 yards per carry in 2008 ranked sixth all-time. In 2007, he played in 9 games rushing for 545 yards and four touchdowns, along with 18 catches for 118 yards and a touchdown. Coffee was granted a medical redshirt in 2006 after recording 179 rushing yards and 91 receiving yards as a true freshman.

The 22-year-old Coffee is a native of Fort Walton Beach, FL. He becomes the sixth of the 49ers seven 2009 draft picks to sign with the team.
