49ers Sign 5 Players to Reserve/Future Contracts

A look at the full, active 49ers roster for the 2014 season. If jersey number in photo differs from that listed in the description, the latter is correct.

The San Francisco 49ers signed running back Kendall Gaskins, tight end Xavier Grimble, wide receiver Lance Lewis, offensive tackle Chris Martin and nose tackle Garrison Smith to Reserve/Future contracts on Tuesday.

Gaskins originally signed with the Buffalo Bills on April 29, 2013, as an undrafted free agent. He spent training camp with the Bills, and was released on August 30, 2013. Gaskins was signed to the Tennessee Titans practice squad on October 8, and was later released on October 18. The New York Giants signed him to the their practice squad on December 17, where he spent the remainder of the season. He was released by the Giants on August 30, 2014, and was signed to the 49ers practice squad on September 1, where he spent the remainder of the season.

Grimble was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Giants on May 15, 2014. He spent training camp with the Giants, before being waived on August 26. Grimble was signed to the 49ers practice squad on September 15 and was later released by the team on November 18. He was re-signed to the team's practice squad on December 16, where he spent the remainder of the season.  

Lewis originally signed with the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent on May 3, 2012, and was later waived by Washington on August 27, 2012. He returned to the Redskins on May 14, 2013, and was waived on August 31, 2013. The following day, he was added to Washington's practice squad. He was later elevated to the team's active roster on November 21, 2013, where he saw action in three games prior to his release on December 18. He was then signed to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad on December 20, 2013, where he spent the remainder of the season. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Cowboys on December 30, 2013, and was later waived on May 12, 2014. He signed a two-year contract with the 49ers on August 9, 2014, and was signed to the team's practice squad on August 31, 2014, where he spent the entire season.

Martin was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Texans on May 16, 2014. He was released on May 27 and later signed with the New England Patriots on June 23. Martin spent training camp with New England before being signed to the team's practice squad on August 31. He was released by the Patriots on September 26 and was signed back to New England's practice squad on October 8. He was released by the Patriots on October 13. The Texans signed Martin to their practice squad on November 12, and he was later released on November 25. He was signed to the 49ers practice squad on December 10, where he spent the remainder of the season. 

Smith was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Miami Dolphins on May 12, 2014. He was signed to the Dolphins practice squad on September 1, 2014, and was later released on September 6. Smith was signed to the New Orleans Saints practice squad on November 27, and was released on December 16. He was signed to the 49ers practice squad on December 23, 2014, where he spent the remainder of the season.
