The 49ers issued the following team statement.
Each year the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce host a kick-off luncheon to celebrate the new season with all of our players and coaches. Last year, the event became a forum for the politicians to pitch a stadium plan, rather than a show of support for the players and coaches. Although the team continues to be active members of the Chamber, we announced in March that we will not be organizing the same event this year. Instead, the team will be hosting 49ers Family Day at Candlestick Park this Saturday from 10 – 2 pm. This is a free event that includes players, cheerleaders, autographs and games for children of all ages. Please join us!
