The San Francisco 49ers announced that they have signed free agent S Darcel McBath to a one-year contract.

McBath (6-1, 198) spent the 2012 season with the 49ers after signing with the team on 7/20/12. He appeared in all 19 games, primarily on special teams where he registered eight tackles in the regular season and one in the playoffs. McBath has played in 31 career regular season games (one start), tallying 33 tackles, two interceptions, and four passes defensed.

Originally a second round draft pick by Denver in the 2009 NFL Draft, McBath appeared in 20 games with the Broncos before being released on 9/4/11. He later signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars on 12/12/11, and appeared in one game that year. The Jaguars then released him on 4/23/12.

A 27-year-old native of Gainesville, TX, McBath starred collegiately at Texas Tech where he earned First-Team All-Big 12 Conference honors in 2008. McBath was a teammate of current 49ers WR Michael Crabtree at Texas Tech for three seasons. His position coach with the Broncos (2009-10) was current 49ers secondary coach Ed Donatell.
