49ers Promote TE Brian Leonhardt to Active Roster, Place RB Carlos Hyde on IR

The San Francisco 49ers have placed running back Pierre Garçon on the Injured Reserve List and promoted tight end Brian Leonhardt to the active roster from the team's practice squad.

Leonhardt (6-5,255) was originally signed to the team's practice squad on Nov. 16, 2015. He entered the NFL with the Oakland Raiders where he signed as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2013. He was waived by the Raiders on Aug. 31, 2013 and was signed to the team's practice squad on Sept. 2, 2013 where he spent the entire season. After signing a reserve/future contract with the team on Dec. 30, 2013, he appeared in 12 games (three starts) in 2014 and registered six receptions for 35 yards and one touchdown. He was waived by the team on Sept. 5, 2015, and later signed to the Cleveland Browns practice squad on Oct. 20. He was released by the Browns on Nov. 11, 2015. 

A 25-year-old native of Blaine, Minn., Leonhardt played collegiately at Bemidji State University where he appeared in 43 games and registered 112 receptions for 1,431 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Leonhardt will wear number 46.

Hyde (6-0, 235) started in each of the team's first seven games this season and registered 115 carries for 470 yards and three touchdowns.
