49ers Promote Marcus Cromartie, Chris Davis to Active Roster; Announce Two Other Roster Moves

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Saturday that they have promoted cornerbacks Marcus Cromartie and Chris Davis to the active roster from the team's practice squad. In order to make room on the roster, the team has placed running back Mike Davis on the Injured Reserve/Designated for Return List and safety L.J. McCray on the Injured Reserve List.

Cromartie (6-0, 195) was originally signed to the 49ers practice squad on Dec. 13, 2014. He was then promoted to the team's 53-man roster on Dec. 13, 2014, where he appeared in three games and registered four tackles. He was released on Sept. 5, 2015 and signed to the 49ers practice squad the following day.

A 24-year-old native of Mansfield, TX, Cromartie played collegiately at the University of Wisconsin, where he appeared in 39 games and registered 113 tackles, 16 passes defensed, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. As a senior, Cromartie earned All-Big 10 honors.

Cromartie will wear No. 47.

Chris Davis (5-10, 201) was originally signed to the 49ers practice squad on Nov. 3. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the San Diego Chargers on May 13, 2014. Last season, he saw action in 12 games (one start) and registered 12 tackles, one forced fumble and one pass defensed to go along with 19 kickoff returns for 476 yards (25.1 average) and two tackles on special teams. He was waived/injured on Sept. 1, placed on the Injured Reserve List the following day and was waived from the Injured Reserve List on Oct. 26.

A 24-year-old native of Birmingham, AL, Davis attended Auburn University, where he appeared in 45 games and finished his career with 194 tackles, 24 passes defensed in four seasons with the Tigers (2010-13).

Davis will wear No. 43.

McCray (6-0, 210) appeared in all eight games this season and registered five tackles on special teams. Mike Davis (5-9, 217) registered 47 total yards (24 rushing and 23 receiving) in five games on offense this season.
