49ers PREP names Nick Morris 2019 Week 3 Player of the Week

POW

With a score of 20-6, the Willow Glen Rams, led by head coach Oscar Caballero, beat the Lincoln Lions.

Senior Defensive Back, Nick Morris (#3) helped lead the Willow Glen Rams to victory through game-changing plays against the Lions. Morris is a 5'8", 165-pound defensive back for the Willow Glen Rams, who continues to develop into an impressive player on and off the field. On Friday night, Morris had 8 tackles, 4 passes defended and one interception.

After scoring a touchdown on their opening drive, Willow Glen put on a defensive battle while they holding the games only points until scoring again in the 4th quarter with a 31-yard rushing touchdown. With a minute and forty-six seconds left in the game, Morris caught an interception resulting in a 54-yard return for a touchdown. Coach Caballero says Nick's interception, "put the game out of reach and sealed the win for the Rams."

"I appreciate Nick's team first attitude," says Caballero. "Believe it or not, Nick is one of our backup quarterbacks and that is a testament to his unselfishness and willingness to do whatever he can to help the team." Although people would describe Morris as quiet, he has a silent confidence that allows him to trust his natural ability and technique to make plays.

After the loss of his father during his freshman year, Morris continues to show courage and determination in all aspects of life. Morris is committed to mentoring children from kindergarten through 8th grade in his free time, while maintaining a 3.5 GPA. Nick is able to honor his dad by showing his two younger brothers, Jayden and Ethan, how he leads by example.

The future looks bright for #3!

As the school of this week's recipient of the 49ers PREP High School Player of the Week Award presented by U.S. Bank, Willow Glen High School will receive a $500 grant towards its football program. As part of this award, Morris will receive two tickets to a 49ers home game where he will be recognized on the field during the pre-game ceremony. At the end of the season, Morris will be presented with his award by 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan during a closed practice at the SAP Performance Facility.

Congratulations, Nick!
