49ers PREP Selects John Regalia as Coach of the Week

COW

The Saint Ignatius Wildcats were able to defeat the Sacred Heart Fightin' Irish on Friday Night, to a score of 28-14. This was a highly anticipated league matchup that presented multiple lead changes throughout the game! The Wildcats took home the first leg of the Bruce-Mahoney trophy with the win over their historic rival, Sacred Heart Cathedral. This rivalry game runs deep in tradition, honoring those who gave their life in WW2, since 1946.

Coach Regalia believes in the importance of San Francisco's rich history of high school football and continues to base his coaching style on honorable traditions and values. "The history of football runs deep in San Francisco," says Regalia. "It is important that we continue to educate our players on that so it's never forgotten." When he isn't teaching in the classroom or on the football field, Regalia enjoys spending time with family and traveling outdoors.

When asked what being named the Charlie Wedemeyer Memorial Coach of the Week means to him, Coach Regalia said, "this is not a reflection of myself, but a reflection of what we're doing as a coaching staff and program."

This will be Coach Regalia's 24th year coaching at Saint Ignatius, serving nine of those years as head coach. "The team has a long road ahead, but nothing is impossible if we stay the course and remember our programs core values," says Regalia.

As our 49ers PREP Charlie Wedemeyer Memorial Coach of the Week presented by U.S. Bank, Regalia will receive a $1,000 grant for the Saint Ignatius football program from the 49ers Foundation. As part of this award, he will also receive two tickets to a 49ers home game where he will be recognized on the field during the pregame ceremony. Regalia will also be invited to visit the SAP Performance Facility to watch a closed practice where 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan will officially present him with his award. Regalia will be featured on the 49ers Cal-Hi Sports Report presented by U.S. Bank on Sunday's at 6 & 10 p.m. on NBC Sports California, which will continue to air throughout the week.

Congratulations, Coach Regalia!
