49ers, McConaughey Team Up for Charity

The San Francisco 49ers and actor Matthew McConaughey have partnered to co-host a "Just Keep Livin PLAY 60" event on Tuesday, September 28 at the San Francisco 49ers Academy in East Palo Alto, CA. At the event, McConaughey and 49ers tight end and NFL PLAY 60 spokesperson, Vernon Davis, and teammates, will lead the 49ers Academy students through guided group workouts, nutritional discussions and football and fitness drills.

"As an NFL PLAY 60 spokesperson and an advocate of nutrition and healthy living, I am excited to work with Matthew McConaughey and his foundation to help youth in the Bay Area understand the importance of exercising and making smart nutritional choices every day," said Davis. "We have a large number of players coming out to support the cause and I know we're all looking forward to helping these kids be active and healthy."

Just Keep Livin PLAY 60 is a joint effort between Matthew McConaughey's j.k. livin foundation, the 49ers RESPECT campaign and the NFL PLAY 60 campaign. The goal of this effort is to help kids lead active lives and make healthy choices to become great men and women by dedicating themselves to improving their physical and mental health through exercise, teamwork, gratitude, and positive life choices.

"The jk livin foundation is thrilled to partner with the 49ers in an effort to help our youth understand the importance of healthy and active lifestyles," said McConaughey. "These athletes are role models for the students and will create such positive examples for them."

The j.k. livin foundation, started by McConaughey with the hope of encouraging children to make positive and healthy changes in themselves and in the world around them, will bring 10 youth participants from the Los Angeles area to participate as co-leaders in the two hour event for the sixth, seventh and eighth grade students of the 49ers Academy.

The 49ers Academy was founded in 1996 to serve 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from East Palo Alto. Defined by educational excellence, the 49ers Academy maximizes the potential of every student by emphasizing self-discipline, respect, and individualized academic attention to help them master core subjects and prepare for high school. The 49ers Academy is located at 2695 Fordham Street, East Palo Alto, CA 94303.

The 49ers RESPECT campaign leverages the power of community involvement and its ability to generate public awareness to share the importance of respect and its central role in helping young people become good community citizens.  As part of the campaign, members of the 49ers organization take part in a variety of community events to reach out to youth and impart the value of respect in three important areas of their lives: families, schools and communities.
