49ers Announce Free Agent Tenders

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have tendered one-year contracts to restricted free agents S Dashon Goldson,* *LB Manny Lawson and DE Ray McDonald. The team has also tendered a one-year contract to exclusive-rights free agent S C.J. Spillman.

Goldson (6-2, 200) was the second of three 4th-round (126th overall) selections in the 2007 NFL Draft out of the University of Washington.  He has played in 51 games with 34 starts in his four-year career, which includes starting all 32 games at free safety for the 49ers the past two seasons. Goldson has posted 254 tackles, five interceptions (one returned for touchdown), three sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. In 2010, Goldson ranked fourth on the team with 102 tackles, while also posting one sack, one interception returned for a touchdown and five passes defensed. A year prior, he set career-highs in tackles (114), interceptions (four), forced fumbles (three), sacks (2.0), fumble recoveries (one) and passes defensed (eight). The 26-year old is a native of Carson, CA.

Lawson (6-5, 240) was the second of two first-round (22nd overall) selections by the 49ers in the 2006 NFL Draft. A five-year veteran, he has played in 64 career games with 55 starts, recording 276 tackles, 14.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and two interceptions. Lawson has also been a steady contributor on special teams, totaling 17 tackles, two blocked punts and one blocked field goal. He's started all 16 games at outside linebacker in each of the past two seasons. Lawson posted 64 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one interception and one fumble recovery in 2010. A year prior, he recorded career-highs in tackles (78), sacks (6.5) and forced fumbles (three). The 26-year old, North Carolina State product is a native of Goldsboro, NC.

McDonald (6-3, 290) was the second of two-third round (97th overall) selections by the 49ers in the 2007 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida. He has seen action in 56 games with nine starts in his four-year career, totaling 155 tackles, five sacks, two fumble recoveries (one returned for touchdown) and one interception returned for a touchdown as a steady contributor in the 49ers defensive line rotation. McDonald has also made an impact on special teams by blocking two field goals and one extra point. In 2010, he saw action in all 16 games and recorded 57 tackles, three passes defensed and one interception returned for a touchdown. The 25-year old was born in Washington, D.C.

Spillman (6-0, 199) played in 11 games for the 49ers in 2010 after being claimed off waivers from San Diego on October 12. He proved to be an immediate contributor on special teams for San Francisco, finishing the season ranked second on the team with 21 special teams stops. He saw limited action on defense and posted one tackle. Spillman was also credited with six special teams tackles in five games played for San Diego, in 2010. In 2009, as a member of the Chargers, he saw action in five games with one start, totaling eight tackles on defense and five special teams stops. In his two-year career, Spillman has seen action in 21 games with one start, totaling nine tackles and 32 special teams stops. The 24-year old, Marshall product is a native of Louisville, KY.
