The 49ers signed quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson to the practice squad on Wednesday evening. To make room for Bethel-Thompson on the practice squad, the team released linebacker D'Aundre Reed.

Bethel-Thompson was waived by the 49ers on Nov. 26, 2013. He spent the previous six games on San Francisco's 53-man roster, but he was inactive for each game.

He originally entered the league as a rookie free agent with the 49ers in 2011. Bethel-Thompson was released following training camp and later signed to the Miami Dolphins practice squad. He was then signed by the Minnesota Vikings on Jan. 13, 2012 and was inactive for each game that season. Bethel-Thompson was waived by the Vikings on Oct. 8, 2013 and claimed by San Francisco the following day.

Reed was signed to the team's practice squad on Sept. 24, 2013.
