The San Francisco 49ers announced they have agreed to a trade with the Minnesota Vikings, acquiring LB Gerald Hodges in exchange for C Nick Easton and an undisclosed draft choice. Hodges and Easton must both pass a physical for the trade to be executed.

Hodges (6-2, 236) was originally drafted in the fourth round (120th overall) by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2013 NFL Draft. He has played in 29 games (10 starts) and registered 92 tackles, 0.5 sack, one interception and eight passes defensed. This season, he appeared in all four games (three starts) for the Vikings and has 19 tackles and one pass defensed.

A 24-year-old native of Paulsboro, NJ, Hodges appeared in 44 games (26 starts) at Penn State University. He finished his career with 249 tackles, becoming just the 11th player in Nittany Lions history to lead the team in tackles in consecutive seasons (2011-12). As a senior, he earned Second-Team All-Big Ten honors and was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week three times during his career.

The 49ers acquired Easton (6-3, 305) from the Baltimore Ravens on September 5, 2015.
