Austin Moss II is in his ninth season with the 49ers and his first season as Vice President, Player Development & Team Dynamics. He previously served two seasons (2024- 25) as senior director, player affairs & engagement and six seasons (2018-23) as the director of player engagement. In his role, he creates and implements a player development ecosystem that fosters high performance and drives the personal and professional growth of all players on the 49ers roster.
Moss II oversees all player programming, including rookie development, team-building and mental health initiatives and family/significant other programming. He is responsible for creating, developing, and nurturing trust with the players while enhancing the overall team culture. Moss II also helps players with the transition process both into and out of the NFL through continuing education, financial education, and providing assistance in dealing with personal and family matters through player programs.
Moss II joins the 49ers after more than six years with the National Football League in multiple roles. He began his career with the NFL as a PREP program and social media intern in 2012 and was later named manager of NFL Player Engagement in August of 2013 before moving to his final NFL role of senior manager, football administration and development beginning in 2016. With the NFL, Moss II oversaw the administration and execution of all PREP programs and managed social media and digital content. He served as a liaison to Senior Vice President Troy Vincent Sr. and coordinated all logistics/planning for PREP programs.
Throughout his time with the NFL, Moss II oversaw and implemented the League's College Relations Program, which included creating awareness and supporting the development of college student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. In addition, he was heavily involved in the development of the NFL PREP Academy & NFL PREP 100 Series for elite high school student-athletes.
Moss II attended the University of Kentucky (2006-09), where he was a three-year letterman after walking onto the football team. He later earned a full athletic scholarship his junior year and contributed as a reserve defensive end and on special teams. He was named Academic All-SEC for three consecutive years and inducted into the University of Kentucky's Frank G. Ham Society of Character, which recognizes student-athletes who give their best towards everything they do.
A native of Hopkinsville, KY, Moss II earned his bachelor's degree from Kentucky in Business Marketing and earned his MBA and Masters in Sport Management from the University of Central Florida's DeVos School of Sport Business Management. Moss II currently resides in San Jose, CA and enjoys listening to music and spending time with family and friends. He is the youngest of four children (Kiyon, Naeeta and Ravi) and was raised by his mother and father, Austin and Teresa Moss Sr. His brother, Ravi, was part of the University of Kentucky's Basketball team for four seasons (2002-06)
