Who
Kaepernick, after dropping back for a would-be play-action pass, escaped the grasp of defensive tackle Clinton McDonald, then ran to the right of linebackers Malcolm Smith and Bobby Wagner before being brought down by safety Kam Chancellor.
Why
The effort gave the 49ers possession at the Seahawks 10-yard line. Three plays later, Anthony Dixon's leap into the end zone led to San Francisco's 10-0 lead. Kaepernick would run for 72 more yards on his 10 other carries, giving him the second highest single-postseason game rushing total (130) in league history; his 181-yard performance against Green Bay in 2012 tops the list.
How
A microcosm of his ability as a runner, this highlight appeared to happen because of the threat of Kaepernick's arm. The Seahawks sat back in a zone defense until he made his way toward the line of scrimmage and upfield, where he broke three arm-tackles. For 49ers fans, this was spectacular but not particularly surprising: San Francisco's signal-caller rushed for 524 yards (or 5.7 yards per carry) during the regular season, which was just 13 shy of Steve Young's single-season franchise record. "Kap" can run with the best of them.
