The 49ers have signed P Colton Schmidt to a three-year deal. In order to make room for Schmidt on the roster, the team waived WR Charly Martin.

Schmidt (5-11, 220) originally signed with the 49ers on July 15, 2013 and was later released on August 2. An undrafted free agent from the University of California - Davis, Schmidt finished his collegiate career with 235 punts for 9,664 yards and a school record 41.1 gross punting average. He also served as the team's kickoff specialist with 34 of his 62 kickoffs resulting in touchbacks.

A 22-year-old native of Bakersfield, CA, Schmidt capped off his Aggies career, in 2012, by surpassing his previous single-season school record of a 42.3 average with a 44.5 gross punting average, earning First-Team All-Big Sky Conference honors.

Martin was originally claimed off waivers from Seattle on July 11, 2013.
