The San Francisco 49ers announced on Wednesday that they have promoted wide receiver Steven Dunbar Jr. to the active roster from the team’s practice squad.
Dunbar Jr. (6-3, 202) was originally signed by the 49ers as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 30, 2018 out of the University of Houston. He was waived on September 1 and signed to the team’s practice squad the following day.
A 23-year-old native of Metairie, LA, Dunbar Jr. appeared in 51 games (38 starts) during his four-year career at Houston, where he registered 180 receptions for 2,430 yards and 11 touchdowns. As a senior in 2017, he started all 12 games and registered 76 receptions for a team-high 1,070 yards and three touchdowns and earned All-American Athletic Conference Honorable Mention honors.
Dunbar Jr. will wear number 19.
